Our Mission:

The path of wisdom and holiness passes through books.  In an age of digitization, real books of the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition are becoming increasingly scarce and costly to acquire.  New and or small Catholic colleges and universities, seminaries, religious institutes, and houses of formation, both in the United States and abroad, are starving for suitable and substantial Catholic libraries worthy of the Christian intellectual tradition.  The Society for the Renewal of Catholic Libraries (SRCL) raises funds for these small and financially modest Catholic organizations in order to enable them to purchase and establish the collections and libraries they need to form their members in prayer, holiness, and intellectual service to the Church and humanity.  Books are still needed to be read, studied, and cherished if the Catholic Church is to most effectively fulfill its mission from Jesus Christ to fill the world with saints to preach the Gospel to every creature.

Goals:

Do or assist the fundraising needed to establish Catholic libraries for new and or small Catholic organizations which are otherwise limited in funds or fundraising capability.

Supply these organizations with Catholic libraries that support the intellectual and spiritual goals of the Church through a network of second hand booksellers and generous publishers.

Once library staff is available, put together these libraries by providing the organization and cataloging of the books.

 Programs:

Library Needs Program:

When a Catholic organization approaches the Society for the Renewal of Catholic Libraries (SRCL) with the desire for a library, the Library Needs Program will first assess the Catholicity of the organization and then its needs: whether it requires the SRCL to fund some or all of the library project, and if so, the subject matter in the library, the scarcity of the books sought as well as any additional expenses that might be required, e.g. freight and on-site labor.  The SRCL sets a budget to acquire the books and to provide for related needs and then finds the funds needed to complete the budget.

Library Builder Program:

Once the needed funds are available, the Library Builder Program works with Loome Theological Booksellers in order to acquire the books and ship them to the site.  After arrival the Library Builder Program will organize books on the shelves by subject heading and provide cataloging services if needed.
